MEMORIZE A DECK OF CARDS! Yeah right. But wait, can it be done easily enough? Apparently so, with the right techniques. After reading "Moonwalking with Einstein" and reading a website or two regarding Person-Action-Object (PAO) systems, I was ready to give it a try. I decided that I'm not quite ready to try the PAO system, but I did run across a website that had a neat twist on card memorization. Make each suit a category and each rank will be a different person in that category. So that's what I did...
Have you ever heard of the Periodic Table of Swearing? I read about it here. I've always been a big fan of the best combination of cuss words. And this table covers it all pretty thoroughly. I even...
Yesterday I went orienteering again, and did my third RED course (about 6.5 km), this time at Sweet Water Creek State Park near Six Flags of Georgia. It was not the most beautiful of parks. But once...
So today was the day... the day of the dreaded body-fat measurement for my Navy Reserve application. I woke up this morning wondering if I'd be able to suck in my gut and get to 38". I took my new handy MyoTape measure and put it around my waist. I saw that I was at the 1/2-inch mark. But wait... It was the 37.5" mark. THE THIRTY-SEVEN AND A HALF INCH MARK! How on Earth? I had been struggling all week to see 38 and here I was 37.5"! I must admit I was amazed... and confident going in to the Navy Office...
"Misunderstandings and neglect create more confusion in this world than trickery and malice. At any rate, the last two are certainly much less frequent."- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, "The Sorrows of Young Werther," 1774 In any case, recent dealings with family have proven this statement true. I hate it when a quote just nails one's feelings like that. Also because now I have to go read the whole bloody story about the sorrows of young Werther. But who ever went wrong reading a little Goethe? Also this...
Of all the morbid things to write about... but I couldn't resist... so here is the backstory and the three blasts from the past I got from the site... So Mamma and I are scouring Google for an obscure...
Another year comes to a close... giving rise to a new year full of promise...I've had a wonderful week of "vacation" and spent a LOT of time with my brother and his wife and kids. But after getting back from Charleston, I had no desire to go out to celebrate bringing in the New Year. Instead, I chose to sit and reflect, as I am wont to do.I have a lot to be thankful for... not in any specific order...1. I worked all year long with Coca-Cola. Kind of a mini-dream.2. I purchased many wonderful things... - nice work...
Most people don't know this game. If you do recognize the game, you'll also recognize the masterful ass-kicking that white gave to black. It's called Trea and my Mamma loves it! Unfortunately, she was black in this game. But what I like most about this game was not the severe butt-whipping, but the aesthetically pleasing way in which it came about. Anyway, this may sound like I'm gloating, but it is anything but. Mamma has dealt many a ruthless loss to me. But Darth Vader put it best... "When I left you, I...
I've created a movie monster. Mamma is all over the iPad now. She was enjoying it before. But as soon as I showed her the Netflix app, she is officially lost in technology. =] Sometimes, I struggle with teaching her how to use different apps. But the Netflix app, which isn't terribly difficult, but it's not as easy to navigate as other apps, but because she really wants that content, she has figured it out in just a few minutes. I must say, Netflix Instant Queue is the worth every penny. And the fact that...
